Lately, I’ve been dreaming of getting away with the hubby for a few nights. There are so many dreamy destinations right here in the United States, I thought I’d do a round-up here of some gorgeous ideas I’ve come across. You’ll notice quite a few from Florida – it’s one of my favorite places to visit!

If you’re planning an anniversary, a honeymoon, or just a quick getaway, these options prove that US travel can be just as great as a getaway to another country.

Why Travel within the US?

  • ease of travel
  • no passports
  • options for every occasion
  • lots of settings – whether you want mountains, lakes, city, beach, etc – we have it here!

1. Cheeca Lodge & Spa

Islamorada, FL
My husband and I visited Cheeca Lodge for just one night back in 2023, and it’s gorgeous! They have amazing food (we had a seafood boil and it was so good!), great pools (including an adult-only pool), a spa, and water activities. This resort is honestly a good choice for both couples and families, and I would happily visit again.

2.  La Playa Hotel

Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA
After a huge renovation in 2023, the La Playa Hotel is looking very 00h-la-la.

Originally, the hotel was a mansion built in 1905 and has been known as “the Grande Dame of Carmel.”

The hotel offers a champagne breakfast daily and includes cheese boards, fruits, and locally sourced produce and ingredients.

3. Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach

Palm Beach, FL
Water sports, tennis, croquet, bicycles…these are just a few of the things to do at the Four Seasons Palm Beach. They also offer mixology classes and five-star food.

If you want easy access to the beach and pools, be sure to check out the Cabana Terrace Rooms. These rooms offer a patio with steps right down to the pool!

4.  The Nantucket Hotel & Resort

Nantucket, MA
Readers of Elin Hilderbrand, might recognize The Nantucket Hotel & Resort as the inspiration behind her book The Hotel Nantucket (which is great, and I highly recommend!).

If that isn’t reason enough to visit, the location in Historic Downtown Nantucket may lure you in.  The hotel is walking or biking distance to some of the best beaches on the island.  You can also ride one of the seasonal beach shuttles.

There are a lot of room types available (I think the Folger Suite looks great!), and two restaurants onsite.

5.  Bungalows Key Largo

Key Largo, FL
One of the few all-inclusive resorts in the United States, Bungalows Key Largo is a great choice for a honeymoon or relaxing getaway.  Your price includes unlimited dining at five of the restaurants, top-shelf liquor, bicycles to use on property, entertainment, pools, snorkel gear, and more.

It is worth noting that I’m not sure how much of a beach, if any, is at the resort.  There’s definitely sand and you can lounge, but beaches are hard to come by in the Keys.  If you’re really wanting a beach, I would skip this resort.

6.  The Pitcher Inn

Warren, VT
The Pitcher Inn may be tiny (there are only nine guest rooms and two suites), but it packs a big punch in the coziness factor!  Each room has a different theme, and they all look amazing.  The nine main guest rooms are adult only, while the two suites do welcome children – which, funny enough, are in the barn adjacent to the inn.

The wine cellar at the Inn is award-winning and features almost 500 bottles of wine. The Main Dining Room offers a farm-to-table experience with fresh and seasonal ingredients.

7.  The Dunlin

Johns Island, SC
I’m a complete sucker for the marsh, and The Dunlin sits on a gorgeous expanse of it.  Located just 20 miles from Charleston, this looks like an amazing place to relax and enjoy the scenery, while still being close enough to all the liveliness of the city.

If you want a unique room, check out the suites that feature outdoor soaking tubs in a gorgeous green color.

8.  Calamigos Guest Ranch

Malibu, CA
If you’re looking for luxury with a touch of rustic, Calamigos Guest Ranch in Malibu may be perfect for you.

Years ago, my husband, daughter, and I visited the Malibu Cafe for dinner.  It’s located at Calamigos Ranch, and I was instantly awed by the scenery and ambience.  To this day, it’s still one of the restaurants that sticks out in my mind.

Since that visit, I’ve longed to go back and stay at the guest ranch.  The bungalows look so relaxing!

Maybe one of these days, I’ll check it off my list.

9. The Greenbrier

White Sulphur Springs, WV
The Greenbrier is a National Historic Landmark in the Allegheny Mountains of West Virginia and offers a variety of activities – a spa, golfing, a casino, and dining. It’s also know for its classic Dorothy Draper interiors, which I think is a style you either love or hate.

Speaking of, there’s a great book that tells the story of Dorothy Draper and The Greenbrier called The Grand Design by Joy Callaway. It’s great and I highly recommend reading it if you plan to visit the resort!

10. Little Palm Island Resort & Spa

Little Torch Key, FL
Little Palm Island has been on my bucket list for so many years. This adults-only island in the Florida Keys is accessible only by boat or seaplane, making for a very exclusive experience.

The resort features thatched-roof bungalows with a British West Indies feel, and include canopied beds. They do NOT include tv’s or phones and encourage guests to disconnect with the rest of the world and focus on the person you’re with.

There’s a spa, dining, and water activities to enjoy onsite.

Have you visited any of these amazing couple resorts?  I’d love to hear about it in the comments!
